Week 1

After enjoying near perfect spring weather for the last 3 days, we had our first smallbore silhouette shoot of the season in...rain. But the precipitation and wind died down after practice and conditions slowly improved as the evening went on and we even saw a few rays of sun toward the end of round 2. The gloomy conditions kept attendance on the low side with 13 shooters on the line so things moved along right quick. Among the bakers dozen were first time shooters Mike C. and Dan C. - welcome aboard guys!

We got things under way and it didn't take long before the targets went flying! Round 1 saw Jim F. and Neal S. whack 8 chickens while Brian S. took home 9. Neal S. also bagged 8 pigs while Paul C. and Jim F. nailed 9 swine each. It was a Thanksgiving feast for Paul C. and Neal S. with 7 turkeys and Neal S. wrapped up a fine first round with 7 rams.

Round 2 saw Pete K. and Erik S. bag 8 chickens with Neal S. going extra crispy with 9. Then it was a pulled pork smackdown for Brian, Erik, and Neal who went 8/8/9 on the pigs respectively. Paul C. slammed 8 rams as did Neal S. who capped off a very consistent evening with his second consecutive score of 30!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for one dozen free bagels from Nezuntoz Café. In the spirit of the economic times, shooters cashed in their "gold" animals for raffle tickets. The exchange proved very lucrative for Bob J. as he won the raffle and will enjoy the bagels during his late night conference calls - congratulations, Bob!

Week 2

Conditions were very summerlike for week 2 of BCSA Silhouette with sunshine, warm temperatures, and just a bit of a breeze. The nice conditions certainly brought out the shooters as we cycled 25 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds! It's great to see so many new faces on the line and this week Jack F. and Frank H. decided to try smallbore silhouette for the first time - Welcome aboard guys! Butch R. broke out his new handmade curly maple stock for some show-and-tell and Pete K. was giving free coaching tips to anyone who would listen.

We got things underway in round 1 and it didn't take long for the targets to get whacked. Bob J. popped 9 chickens and Pete K. followed with 8 of his own. Jim F. and Neal S. pounded 8 pigs and Jim M. started to find his groove again with 9 turkeys. Round 2 featured more good shooting as Jim M. went 8-9 on chickens and pig and Jim F. followed with 8 pigs of his own. Pete K. toppled 7 turkeys and Ray H. slammed 7 rams. Brian S. had a very nice round with 8 chickens, 8 pigs, and 9 rams, but a stubborn bunch of frozen turkeys yielded just one gobbler.

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pizza from Michelangelo's. Pete K. thought he had things wrapped up by going 8-for-8 with gold animals but Neal S. snuck in with the winning ticket and took home the prize - Enjoy, Neal!

Week 3

Conditions were quite gloomy for week 3 of BCSA Silhouette as the skies looked ready to open up any minute. Despite the threatening conditions our intrepid group of silhouette shooters were out in force as we cycled 20 shooters through the course over 2 rounds. Caped crusader Pete K. was hawking his new "bat grips" while Pat S., Jack E., and Jocko L. were discussing "reading material".

In round 1 Jocko L., Jim M., and Neal S. all whacked 8 pigs, Pete K. toppled 7 turkeys, Neal S. bagged 9 rams, and Ray H. was on fire as he smoked the course with a nice round 1 score of 30 - Nice shooting folks! Katie A. made her first trip to the range this year pay off as she whooped her dad by 2 points!

The ranks thinned out a bit and we consolidated to one relay for round 2 so things moved along right quick. Unfortunately not quite quick enough as our luck ran out and we had to deal with rain for the second half of the round. Neal S. went 9/8 on chickens and pigs, Ray H. bagged 8 pigs of his own and Jim M. popped 9 swine. Pete K. was all over the turkeys with 9 gobblers while Ray H. and Jocko L. slammed 8 rams each.

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Frosty Joe's, and this week's luck winner was...Ed P. - Enjoy, Ed!

Week 4

We enjoyed pleasant weather for our evening silhouette shoot with cool temperatures and just a bit of a breeze. A nice change from the wet and breezy conditions in previous weeks. The good weather brought shooters to the range in force as we had 24 shooters in round 1 over 2 relays. O.D. decided to come out and give the silhouette game a try, veteran cowgirl Cathy C. wanted to give the smallbore game a whirl, and Joe C. made his first smallbore silhouette appearance of the year - Welcome to all!

In round 1 Neal S. set the pace on chickens with a fine 9 while Jack F., Ray H., Bob J., Pete K., and Jim M. all had a date with 8. Ray H. and Jim M. each pummeled 9 pigs and Ken J. whacked 8. Ray H. and Jim M. continued their hot shooting with 7 turkeys apiece and Pete K. managed to slam 8 rams. Pete K. had a fine round going but he had to bail out before shooting the pigs. Dan Ch. had to take an alibi shot due to an uncooperative shell casing and he made it count as he smacked a turkey on his way to a nice round of 15 - Nice going Dan! Jack F. turned in a nice round of 20 despite running into some tough dark meat on the turkeys and O.D. looked to be catching on right quick.

The ranks thinned quite a bit for round 2 but the hot shooting continued as Ray H. popped 8 chickens and Ken J. ordered himself up a 10 piece bucket of extra crispy - Nice shooting, Ken! Joe C. and Jim M. nailed 8 fine swine, Ray H. bagged 7 turkeys, and Jim M. and Neal S. downed 7 rams each.

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pound of coffee from Tom’s Coffee, Cards & Gifts. Proving the old adage that it only takes one ticket to win it, Chris A. won the raffle in absentia - Enjoy, Chris!

Week 5

Again with the weather! Conditions were gloomy and threatening throughout the evening but we had little more than some light sprinkles to contend with for the latter stages of round 2. Despite the ominous skies we had yet another good turnout with 20 shooters on the line for 2 relays in round 1. Cathy C. was showing off pics of Paul’s new armory and Bob J. was able to pull himself away from obedience class to make the trip to the range - I hear the dog almost has him trained...

In round 1 Jim C. and Neal S. both went 8-8 on chickens and pigs while Joe C. and Jim F. whacked 9 swine apiece. Brian S. bagged 7 turkeys and Jim F. smacked 8 rams. In the battle for family supremacy it was “Father Knows Best” as Chris A. edged Katie by a point and Ron C. led his boys with an 18. Brian S. was one up on his pop and Cathy C. fell one short of Paul C. - better watch out next time Paul she’s catching on quick!

The ranks thinned for round 2 as many folks decided not to press their luck and make a break for it while they were still dry. Butch R. and Brian S. claimed 8 chickens while Neal S. went for 9. Jim F. and Neal S. both whacked 7 turkeys and Jim F. added 7 rams along with Brian S. Joe C. had a problem with the supply convoy and the ammo didn’t reach the front line in time for the chickens.

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Phil’s Chicken House. The tickets were damp but spirits were high as the winning number was announced. And it was...Jim F. emerging victoriously from the crowd to claim the prize - Enjoy, Jim!

Week 6

Once again we enjoyed pleasant weather for week 6 of BCSA Silhouette. Pleasant for Seattle or London that is! For late spring in the Southern Tier we suffered through another cool and damp evening with occasional showers. The lousy weather really kept turnout low as there were only 13 "silly wet" shooters on the line for round 1. Apparently the bad conditions really made shooters focus as several fine scores were turned in.

In round 1 Jim M. went 10-10 on chickens and pigs while Neal S. followed with a 9-9 combination and Ed P. added 9 swine of his own. Ron C. whacked 7 rams on his way to a score of 21 which tied his personal best - Nice going, Ron! Dave L. slammed 8 rams which helped him card a round of 24, giving him a new personal best - Congrats, Dave (remember Dave, you're having FUN!)!

In round 2, Jim F. and myself were squadded together and we were makin' bacon with a combined 20 on the pigs. The feat was nearly duplicated by squadding mates Jim M. and Neal S. as they both went 9-in-a-row but both missed number 10 - That one must have been one wild boar guys! Jim F. went on to pop 7 turkeys on his way to a 29, Jim M. toppled 8 rams and carded a 28, and Neal S. went 9-9-7-7 for a very nice round of 32! Ed P. was rock solid and turned in 2 rounds of 18 and Dave L. (remember Dave, you're having FUN!) capped off his fine night with a second round score of 19 - Nice shooting, folks! We wrapped things up with a gift certificate to Apple Hills. Many soggy raffle tickets were handed out but Dave L. was riding high all night and he took home the prize - Enjoy, Dave!

Week 7

Initially conditions for week 7 of BCSA Silhouette appeared to offer a change from the inclement weather of past weeks, but it wasn’t necessarily a change for the better. The weather was sunny, hot, and humid right through practice. The illusion of benign weather lured many shooters out to the range and round 1 was packed with 25 shooters, including newbie Charlie C. - Welcome aboard, Charlie!

No sooner did we get things underway than the skies began to darken and the winds of change began to blow. The gusty winds were swirling all about and made staying on target quite challenging. Yet Jocko L. still managed to whack 9 chickens followed by Jim M. with 8. Jim F. and Ray H. popped 8 piggies each, Bob J. scored an impressive 8 on the turkeys while Jim F. and Neal S. bagged 7 of their own, and Jocko L. and Jim M. slammed 7 rams. The continually darkening skies spooked many shooters and the ranks thinned considerably for round 2.

We stood like storm chasers on the great plains and watched the trees sway in the gusty winds. We stood and watched lightning flash across the evening sky. We stood and watched...everything...move to our east! Against all odds we dodged all the large hail and heavy rain and only had to contend with a brief, light shower for round 2! Toward the end of the round the sun even broke through the clouds and unveiled a nice rainbow for us. The remaining shooters took advantage of the lucky break in the weather and smacked some steel. Jim F., Ray H., and Neal S. nailed 8 chickens, and Neal followed up with 9 swine. Jim F. pegged 7 rams but it was Ray H. that discovered a pot-o’-rams at the end of the rainbow as he cleaned his bank with a perfect 10 - Nice going, Ray!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for dinner for 2 at Texas Roadhouse. More folks had departed than remained so it took a few moments to determine the winner, who was...Paul C. - Enjoy, Paul!

Week 8

I guess I can't complain about the regularly scheduled rain event for our Thursday smallbore silhouette shoots since it now simply rains every day. Luckily the bulk of the rain fell before the match with just a light passing shower to contend with during clean-up. The combination of questionable weather and summer vacations kept attendance low with only 15 shooters on the line so things moved along right quick. Greg S. was anxious to try out his new ExxonMobil gun, now available in 2 models - leaded and unleaded. "Lonesome Dove" Ron C. was flying solo and Ray H. was just happy to be here!

In round 1 Bob J. crushed 8 chickens, Ray H. pounded 9 pigs, and Jim F. smacked 9 rams - Nice going guys! Round 2 was a nice change of pace as no one left early and we actually added as shooter as mountain man Erik S. took advantage of the long weekend to make the trip down. The second half of our match featured some crazy 8's as Bob J. went 8-8 on chickens and pigs, Ray H. downed 8 rams, and Neal S. went for the combo meal with 8 pigs and 9 rams on his way to a nice score of 30!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Sharkey's. Everyone had better odds with the smaller crowd but in the end the winner was...Jim F. - Enjoy the clams, Jim!

Week 9

We finally caught a break with the weather as the rain went elsewhere and left us with good shooting conditions for a change! The decent weather really boosted attendance as we cycled 25 shooters through two relays over 2 rounds!

In round 1, Jim M. smashed 10 chickens and Neal S. crushed 10 pigs. Jim F., Jocko L. and Jim M. all had 7 turkeys and Neal S. went for 8. Butch R. slammed 7 rams as did Neal S. Neal S. and Jim M. both had nice round 1 scores of 30 - way to go , guys!

In round 2 the ranks thinned considerably and we were able to consolidate to just one relay to keep things moving along. Jim M. popped 9 piggies and Neal S. completed a clean sweep of the pigs as he went 20/20 for the match! Jim M. started getting his groove back as he finished 8-9 on the turkeys and rams and carded a nice round of 34 - Nice shooting, Jim!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a dozen bagels from Nezuntoz Café. After searching through many absentee raffle tickets, the winner was still present and accounted for - Ray H! Congrats, Ray!

Week 10

Conditions looked ominous with thunder in the air for our latest edition of BCSA smallbore silhouette, but the storms slid right on by to our south and we sound up with a very nice evening! Turnout was light with many local shooters on the road but we still cycled 18 shooters through 2 relays. In round 1 Ray H. smacked 9 pigs, Neal S. toppled 7 turkeys, and Jim F. and Ray H. both went for 7 rams. In round 2, Ray H. went one better and popped all the pigges followed by Jim M. with 9. Jim M. also bagged 7 turkeys but the rams really took it on the chin as Ray H. and Pete K. whacked 7 and Jim F. and Jim M. slammed 8.

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse. The carnivores in the crowd were anxiously awaiting the winning ticket being drawn by Pat S. And the winner was...Jim M. - Enjoy, Jim!

Week 11

Conditions were cloudy but we got lucky and the rain stayed away so we remained dry for week 11 for BCSA Silhouette. The only problem was the gusty breeze which blew in from time to time and rocked us like sails on a boat. Turnout was on the light side but most of the "usual suspects" were on hand with 17 on the line over 2 relays for round 1.

In round 1 Ron C. and Pete K. both popped 8 chickens but the chief chickenwhacker was Neal S. who bagged his quota of 10 birds - Nice going guys! Jim F. and Brian S. nailed 8 pigs each and Ray H. had 9 swine of his own. In round 2 Brian S. slammed 7 rams while Ray H. went 8-8 on pigs and turkeys. Jim F. bagged 8 pigs before walking into an ambush on the turkeys. It's like an Alfred Hitchcock movie - Beware the birds, folks! Ron C. and Butch R. decided to make a little side wager on round 2 and apparently these guys are money shooters as they both zeroed in and shot identical scores of 22, which proved to be a new personal best for Ron C.! Nice going guys! They were shooting so hot they were on fire - or was that just smoke wafting in from Greg S. puffing on a cigarette?

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Little Venice. Many tickets were given out but Bob P. was confident in his numbers, so like Babe Ruth pointing over the fence Bob called his shot before the drawing - And sure enough "The Babe" came through and he won the prize! Enjoy, Bob!

Week 12

We had pleasant summer conditions for week 12 of BCSA Silhouette with sunshine, warm temperatures, and just a light breeze. The pleasant conditions brought 18 shooters to the range to try their luck over 2 relays in round 1. However, falling under the category of "It's always something" rain the previous day combined with our grass seeding project created...how shall we say...soft footing.

In round 1 Pete K. and Neal S. went 8-9 on the chickens, respectively, while Ray H. and Ed P. popped 8 piggies each. Neal S. whacked 7 turkeys and Chris A. toppled 7 rams. Jim F. has an excellent run of 9 on the rams but ram 6 was real tough, even dodging a fastball that was low and away. Ray H. was raiding the hen house, then tried to blame the missing chicken on Frank S. citing a chicken shaped tread pattern on his boots. Dave L. made an early exit to beat the traffic and took his scorecard with him, while Ray H. and Butch R. were "passing the flask" - Are you guys sure that was a gun care product in there?

In round 2 Erik S. went for 9 chickens, Jim F. nailed 8 pigs, and pig-popper Neal S. bagged a perfect 10 - Nice shooting, Neal! Ray H. pegged 7 rams and Neal S. slammed 8. I had a tail shot on turkey 4 that turned the bugger almost a full 90 degrees without taking it down - Someone born in Jersey shouldn't have that much trouble "flipping the bird".

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pizza from Michelangelo's. Pete K. may have left early but his luck stuck around and he won the raffle in absentia - Enjoy, Pete!

Week 13

We had ideal conditions for week 13 of BCSA Silhouette with pleasant temperatures and just a bit of a breeze. Wes F. took advantage of the nice weather to make his first trip of the season to the silhouette range - Welcome back, Wes! Pete K. was flashing his political clout as he prepares to run for office on the "sandbagger" party ticket. Ray H. was still chock full of chicken (is that a chicken in your pocket Ray or...oh, nevermind!) and Butch R. was just happy to be there.

In round 1 Senator Pete K. whacked 8 chickens and Jim F. and Ken J. bagged 7 pigs each. Greg S. slammed 7 rams and Jim F. and Ray H. smacked 8 sheep apiece - Nice shooting folks! In round 2 Ron C. jumped into the mix and went for 8 chickens along with Jim F. and Wes F.. Ron even found the missing chicken from last week! Ray H. had 9 swine followed by Neal S. with 8. The turkeys took it on the chin as Bob J. bagged 7 birds followed by Jim F. and Ray H. with 8 and Neal S. fought through a bad zero to topple 7 rams.

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pound of coffee from Tom's Coffee, Cards, and Gifts. The suspense was tremendous as the winning ticket was pulled from the jar, the tension so thick you could cut it with a spork! And the winner is...Bob J. - Enjoy, Bob!

Week 14

Thankfully we got our weekly thunderstorm out of the way before practice and we were left with beautiful conditions for week 14 of BCSA Silhouette with sunshine, pleasant temperatures, and very little breeze to contend with. Unfortunately only a small group of shooters were on hand to take advantage of the nice weather as we had 12 on the line for round 1.

With only one relay things moved right along for round 1. O.D. pounded 8 pigs while Ken J. whacked 9 swine. Butch R. and Greg S. both slammed 7 rams and Neal S. was on to something with 9. We lost several folks after the first round which left us with single digits (yikes!) for round 2. Ken J. popped 8 chickens, Butch R. pecked 7 turkeys, and Jim F. slapped 8 sheep. Neal S. really found his stride in the second round as he went 9/8/10/7 on his way to a very nice personal best score of 34! And by toppling 10 turkeys he completed another leg of his Hunter Grand Slam - Way to go, Neal!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Phil's Chicken House. Many tickeys were given out but in the end it was O.D., the man with one ticket, who claimed the prize - Enjoy, O.D.!

Week 15

We got our weekly rain shower out of the way early in the afternoon but it left behind very muggy conditions for our evening of smallbore silhouette. Attendance was on the light side as we were able to cycle 17 shooters through one relay over 2 rounds.

In round 1 Jim F. smacked 9 chickens followed by Ray H. with 8, while Brian S. popped 9 piggies and Neal S. whacked 8. Jim F. and Ray H. both had 7 turkeys and Ed P., Jocko L., and Neal S. slammed 7, 8, and 9 rams, respectively. Dan C. overcame some tough chicks to post a personal best score of 16 - Nice going, Dan!

In round 2 Pete K. led the chicken charge with 9 followed by Ray H. with 8. Ray H. added 8 pigs to his total while Jim F. went for 8 turkeys instead, and Ray and Neal S. both polished off the rams with a great 8.

We wrapped things up with a special "dinner and dessert" double raffle courtesy of Number 5/Lampey's and Apple Hills. Our first winner was Neal S. who opted for the sweets and the main course went to Ron C. - Enjoy!

Week 16

After battling the elements all season, we were greeted with absolutely ideal late summer conditions for our final smallbore silhouette shoot with a beautiful sky, cool temperatures and a calm wind. Turnout continued to be on the light side however with 17 on the line for 2 relays in round 1. After a long hiatus Brian T. made the trip back to the BCSA range but he proved you can go too far with gun safety as he left the bolt for his rifle back home in the safe. Greg S. was polishing off some old loose rounds so he'll have some nice fresh bricks of ammo to tap for next season :)

We got round 1 under way and Neal S. wasted no time in running down all 10 rams to complete his hunter rifle Grand Slam - Nice going, Neal! Ray H. also got in on the act by whacking 10 chickens while Jim M. toppled 7 turkeys and Jocko L. slammed 7 rams. The ranks thinned a bit for round 2 so we consolidated down to one relay and things moved along right quick, which was a good thing since the daylight was fading fast! Shooters were pumped for the last round of the season and fired some nice scores. Ray H. and Neal S. came in with 29's, Ken J. brought home a 30, and Jim M. closed out the season with a 34 - nice shooting guys!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for dinner for 2 to Texas Roadhouse. Ray H. parlayed his good shooting to an arms length of tickets and he was more than happy to claim the prize - Enjoy, Ray!

Smallbore Cowboy

Saturday: April 18 May 16 June 20 July 18 August 22 September 19

Saturday April 18

It was a busy day around the area with many local shoots scheduled, scattering local shooters all across the region. Thus, we had a cozy shoot with 2 relays so things moved along right quick. Lynn M. and Bill S. decided to give the cowboy game a try and it looks like they're hooked - Welcome aboard guys!

Conditions started off nice with lots of sun and pleasant temperatures but the breeze picked up and created windy conditions by round 2. The rams were blowing down so Pete K. broke out the masking tape to keep them in place. Sharpshooter Ray H. decided it was too easy to hit the targets so he took aim at a paint can at 100 yards, sending the can whirling about and unleashing a plume of white paint next to the rams (that was a brand new can, Ray!). 10's were hard to come by on the day but Jim M. fought the wind and nailed 10 pigs and, more importantly, 10 rams in round 2. The 10 rams ended Jim's 3 year quest to complete his smallbore cowboy Grand Slam - Nice going Jim!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a dozen bagels from Nezuntoz Cafe. Brian T. won the raffle and was quickly pressured to bring them in to work for breakfast! Enjoy, Brian!

Saturday May 16

We had warm temperatures with intervals of sun for our afternoon of smallbore cowboy silhouette, but the real challenge was dealing with a stiff gusty wind throughout the match. In round 1, the wind proved to be no trouble for Paul C. and Dave S. as they both completed another leg toward their Grand Slam with 10 rams and 10 chickens, respectively - Nice going, guys! Unfortunately for Ray H., however, his quest for a paint can grand slam was thwarted. I always knew most of us silhouette shooters had a “screw loose” but Brian T. proved it as his gun repeatedly jammed until Jim M. figured out the problem. Brian T. then shot a 6 shot alibi on turkeys all by himself and nailed them all! In round 2 the pigs really took a beating as Jocko L. and Jim M. both nailed 10 porkers and Paul C. whacked 10 as well on his way to a nice score of 36 - Nice shooting guys!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pound of coffee from Tom’s Coffee, Cards and Gifts. After tallying the gold animals and handing out lots of tickets, the winner of the drawing was...Jim M. - Enjoy, Jim!

Saturday June 20

After our morning air rifle silhouette shoot we packed up the blowguns and set up the range for smallbore cowboy. It was quickly becoming obvious that the morning sprinkles were developing into something a bit more substantial, like a tsunami. We pressed on despite the worsening conditions and the scores were really quite good! In round 1 Mark B. ran 10 pigs and Jim M. went 10-10 on pigs and turkeys. Vicki B. and Ray H. added 9 swine each and it was basically “crazy 8's” on the rams as Mark B., Vicki B., Ray H., Dave L., and Jim M. all slammed 8 rams.

As we began round 2, the rain started coming down in buckets and the BCSA reservoir was born. Yet the scores continued to be strong as the field downed 91 out of 100 pigs, including the first 10-in-a-row for Vicki B.! Jim M. led the charge with a round 2 score of 38 followed by Ray H. and Dave S. with 31's and Vicki B. and Butch R. with 30's - Nice going folks! After the match we all turned in our soggy score sheets and swam out to clean up the range. Many waterlogged raffle tickets were handed out for our raffle prize of a gift certificate to Apple Hills. And the winner was...Mark B.! Since Mark isn’t local he declined the prize and on the redraw the winner was Brian T. - Enjoy, Brian!

Saturday July 18

Our great shooting conditions continued as we switched gears ad moved from air rifle to smallbore cowboy silhouette. Again local shooters were on the move so we only had one relay and things moved along at a rapid fire pace. In round 1 Bill T. unleashed a torrent of lead on the pigs to flatten them all out while Jack E. and Jocko L. each bagged 9 swine of their own. Jocko L. added 9 chickens and crazy 8's on the turkeys and rams on his way to a nice score of 32, followed closely by Ray H. with a 31 - Good shooting guys! In round 2 Ray H. pounded the pork with a perfect 10 and Pete K. was much more impressed with the 9 rams from Butch R. than he was with the 9 rams from Jocko L.!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Phil’s Chicken House. After dishing out several “arm’s lengths” of tickets the winner was...Bill T. - Enjoy, Bill!

Saturday August 22

Despite a weather forecast of gloom-and-doom conditions were just mostly cloudy and sticky for our afternoon smallbore cowboy silhouette shoot. Attendance was quite light with just 9 shooters on the line for round 1. Dave S. brought along his son Kevin to have a taste of the fun - Welcome, Kevin!

In round 1 Jim M. smacked 10 chickens, Dave S. popped 10 pigs, and Bob J., Jim M., and Butch R. ran 7 turkeys. In round 2, Dave S. ran 10 chickens and 9 pigs on his way to a nice score of 29, Jim M. fired a "rapid fire" score of 33, and Kevin S. got the hang of things and banged 8 pigs on his way to a score of 18 - Nice going folks! Dave L. had to bow out due to a stubborn ejector and Pete K. had to leave before the round to replace the battery in his front sight.

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a dozen bagels from Nezuntoz Cafe. And the winner was...Bob J. - Enjoy, Bob!

Saturday, September 19

Things warmed up a bit for our afternoon smallbore cowboy silhouette shoot but the wind also picked up and we had breezy but pleasant conditions for our shoot. Turnout continued to be on the light side as we had 11 shooters on the line for 2 relays over 2 rounds. Junior shooter Kevin S. was back for more cowboy fun as were a host of our regular irregulars :)

The animals got off easy in round 1 with no 10's to be had. Leading the charge was Ray H. with a 33, and no chickens in his pocket! Kevin S. almost beat his dad, Dave S., with a nice score of 20 and Brian T. was "sleeping it off" on a bench. In round 2 "quickdraw" Jocko L. smacked 10 pigs while Butch R. slapped 10 turkeys to complete another leg toward his cowboy Grand Slam - Nice going guys!

We capped off our shoot with a raffle for a free pizza at Michelangelo's. The winner of our final prize of the year was frequent flier Jim F. - Enjoy, Jim!

Saturday April 18

We kicked off our 2009 air rifle silhouette season with ideal conditions under sunny skies and just a bit of a breeze. New airheads Pete K. and Jim F. decided to get in on the fun of this very enjoyable sport - Welcome aboard! Unfortunately for Pete K. the fun didn't last long as his scope went south (way south!) after the first few shots in round 1. The rest of us faired better as our only malfunctions were neurological.

Greg S. managed to post identical scores in rounds 1 and 2 while Dave L. found his target air rifle worked better without the bloop tube. We wrapped things up with a raffle for dinner for 2 at Texas Roadhouse. Jim F. quickly realized just how much fun this air rifle stuff can be as he was the lucky winner of the prize - Congrats, Jim!

Monday April 27

For our first Monday night match of the 2009 season the weather couldn't have been more perfect..........NOT!! 90's in April, I thought we lived in the Northeast!!

Anyhow, we had 6 shooters come out and enjoy the warm temperatures, wind gusts and the bugs! None of the animals fared too well on this mid-summer like evening. Our favorite Match Director decided to hand over the reins to a couple of amateurs. It looks like that was a wise decision since he was able to shoot some remarkable scores. However we all heard some muttering when only 9 rams fell ;).

A good time was had by all on our first Monday shoot of the season!

Please note, there will be no Monday night match on May 25th.

Monday May 11

It was a pleasant evening for our Monday night match. We had a light breeze to deal with in the first round and near calm conditions in the second round.

5 shooters ventured out to enjoy the fun. We ran 2 relays in the first round, with a couple shooters shooting 2 guns. Fran M. left after the round 1 so round 2 was reduced to one relay.

For some strange reason, there seemed to be more hits on the big black metal targets rather than on the little white ones throughout the match. Hmmmm……

Saturday May 16

We had warm and muggy conditions for our morning air rifle silhouette shoot and the breeze was on a slow but steady increase throughout our festivities. Pete H. made the drive up from out of town but his air rifle proved to be uncooperative during practice so he took in the events form the bleachers.

In round 1, Dave L., Greg S., and Pat S. all pounded 7 pigs and Pat finished the round with a very nice score of 20 - Nice going, Pat! In round 2, Jim F. kicked it up a notch with 7 chickens on his way to a score of 21 and Greg S. fell one point short of ruling the roost as Pat’s 2 round total of 35 got the job done!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Little Venice. Tickets were awarded based on the 2 round total score from the chickens and it was none other than local “airhead” Dave L. who won the prize - Enjoy, Dave!

Monday June 8

Another Monday night match is in the books.

5 shooters came out to brave the weather. Pete K. was back to give it another shot and air rifle newbie Butch R. decided to give this fun sport a try.

The night was cut short. Half way through round 1 of the match, our local meteorologist arrived and informed us that we only had about 15 more minutes of dry weather. We packed things up and were able to clean things up before the rain arrived. Let's hope for better weather next time.

Saturday June 20

We had cloudy conditions and an occasional sprinkle to deal with for our morning air rifle silhouette shoot. Despite the less than ideal conditions we had a good turnout with 7 shooters in two relays. Silhouette veteran Jim M. decided to take a whack at the air rifle game and Mark and Vicki B. even made the trip up from PA - Welcome! Greg S. was anxious to stretch the legs of his new Marauder and Butch R. was still trying to work a deal with Dave L. to buy his “obsolete” air rifle for a generous offer of $25.00.

In round 1, Butch R. whacked 7 chickens followed by Mark B. with 7, and Jim M. went wide body with 7-7 on pigs and rams. In round 2, Butch R. was still liking the chickens as he added 7 more to his total and Jim M. showed he was catching on real quick to the air rifle game with a second round score of 32! We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pizza from Michelangelos. Tickets were distributed based on the two round score on the pigs and the winning ticket went to...Jim M. - Enjoy, Jim!

Monday June 22

It turned out to be a rather decent evening for our Monday night shoot. We had some clouds, sun, a light breeze and NO RAIN!

The turnout was rather light with only 4 shooters that were cycled over 2 relays. We did have a couple of spectators pop out a few times to see what was going on (Mr. Rabbit & Mr. Woodchuck). I think they enjoyed the show.

Jim F. had a better first round, Dave L. had a better second round and Pat S. had a scope that went south halfway through the first round. Isn't this a fun sport!?

Monday July 13

Another fall like evening for our Monday Night shoot! The temperatures this year have been very pleasant, now if we could just keep the rain away!

We had 5 shooters venture out to try their luck. The night was filled with many distractions that took a few of the shooters out of their "rhythm". There were 2 delays due to construction vehicles, a nice haze of smoke from somewhere nearby and a couple of equipment glitches. Most of these took place in round 1 and were sorted out by round 2.

Shooters were cycled over 2 relays for round 1, and only 1 relay for round 2. Everyone did the best they could under these adverse conditions and will more than likely be back again next time to give it another go!

Saturday July 18

We had great shooting conditions for our Saturday morning air rifle silhouette shoot with a mix of sun and clouds, cool temps, and a light breeze. Unfortunately most local air rifle silhouette shooters were elsewhere so it was a cozy atmosphere to say the least! Pete K. was dreaming of a Bowflex body every time he has to cock his TX200. He was also dreaming of remembering to focus his scope on the targets. Things moved along right quick and we both had a good time. We wrapped things up with or “raffle” and the winner of the Apple Hills gift certificate was...you guessed it...Pete K. - Enjoy, Pete!

Monday July 27

Well, another Monday night match is in the books! The weather looked threatening off in the distance, but nothing materialized over the range! Guess we got lucky this time. There was a decent breeze and few dark clouds throughout the match, but nothing too bad.

The topics of discussion for the evening were forensics, CSI, free air, no air and hot air. The spectators for this event were a woodchuck, a rabbit and a rat! It was a rather informative and interesting evening!

Six shooters were cycled over 2 full relays, and as usual there seemed to be more hits on the big black rectangular animals rather than on the little white ones. We also had a few "trick shots", but "down is down"! There were a few minor equipment problems that were easily corrected and the "fun" continued. The next Monday match is August 10.

Monday August 10

Another Monday match and more weather issues! It seems like the 2 go hand in hand lately. The weather was sunny and very humid at the start of the match and very dark and still humid at the end.

4 shooters were cycled over one speed round of silhouette. Shooters were dealing with perspiration and condensation. Due to the threatening weather and the sounds of distant thunder, we decided to shoot just one round and get things packed up while everything was still dry. The last of the things were put away before the skies opened up.

You would think that was it.....wrong!! After the round, 3 airgunners decided to head north in search of cooler weather and the elusive valet key, but that's a story for some other time...

Conditions were cloudy and muggy for our morning air rifle silhouette shoot but there was no wind to speak of so all was well. Things moved along right quick with just 4 on the line for one relay over 2 rounds. Jim M. was putting his new air rifle to good use but he quickly found out that the little air rifle buggers are just as hard to hit as their larger smallbore cousins. And after warming up in round 1 Butch R. got 9 pigs on his way to a new personal best score of 23 - nice shooting, Butch! We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pound of coffee from Tom's Coffee, Cards, & Gifts. Tickets issued based on the 2 round total of pigs. After dishing out several "arm's length" of tickets the winner of the prize was...Jim M. - Enjoy, Jim!

Another Monday night Match down with only 2 left for the season!

We had a very pleasant evening for our shoot. Plenty of sun, a light breeze, lower humidity and temperatures that were not too hot. It's about time! 4 shooters were on hand and were cycled through one relay over the 2 rounds. Everything went pretty quick with no problems, and one shooter even reached one of their personal goals! The next air rifle event will be the NYPENN regional on September 5th followed by only 3 more weekly shoots for the year.

Monday September 14

Another rain free Monday match!! Hopefully this streak will continue!

Four shooters were on hand to partake in the evenings festivities. Everything went off without a hitch. Lead was sent down range, a few animals were knocked down and there were really no equipment malfunctions to speak of. The 4 shooters were cycled over 2 rounds with only 1 relay per round. Bob J. was trying out target class, Dave L. was shooting a leaned down version of his rifle and Pat S. & Greg S. were just along for the ride.

Remember, only 2 matches left for the season! Come out and get your last shots in before the snow flies!

We had a crisp, frosty fall morning for our air rifle silhouette shoot with cool (dare I say cold!) temperatures, bright sunshine, and just a bit of a breeze. Dave L. was anxious to play with his latest new toy from the "dark side" (use the FORCE Dave!), while Greg S. and Pat S. were telling tales from the "far side".

In round 1, Butch R. was mowing down the white animals like a lawn mower tearing into blades of grass, Dave L. was cussing the turkeys, and Pat S. was liking 4's - a lot! In round 2, Greg S. stepped it up with a nice score of 20's, Pat S. was still liking 4's, Dave L. was cussing more poultry, and Butch R. duplicated his personal best score of 27 for a second time - Nice shooting, Butch!

We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Lampey's/Number 5. And with an arm's length of tickets the winner was...Dave L. - Enjoy, Dave!

Monday September 28

Well..... That's all folks!!! The 2009 BCSA silhouette season has come to an end!!

The weather for this Monday's shoot was exciting to say the least! During practice we had sunshine, wind, gray skies, rain and a little hail thrown in for good measure! We had a 15 minute rain delay before the match started, but were ready to go as soon as the skies cleared. 4 shooters came out to brave the elements and battle for silhouette supremacy.

There was only one relay over the 2 rounds of action. We even had a deer show up to view the show. There also seemed to be a little side David versus Goliath battle going on throughout the evening. It was the mighty Daystate versus the little 10M Air Arms. In the end, the little "just roll it in" Air Arms was victorious! The sky started to darken when we still had 2 animals left in the second round. This made things a little challenging, unless you turn the reticle on. Overall, all shooters did fine, considering the conditions.

Thanks to all that attended this year, and hope to see more of you in 2010!
