Week 1
The day started off gloomy with some showers but by match time the sun was out and a cool breeze was drifting through the range - all in all, good conditions for our first smallbore silhouette shoot of the season. It was great to see so many new faces on the line, including junior shooter Mitchell C., a sure sign that silhouette shooting is alive and well in the Twin Tiers - Welcome aboard folks! The newly expanded range functioned well as we comfortably fit 16 shooters on the line and cycled through a total of 18 shooters over 2 rounds. Ed P. got on target during practice by making some adjustments to his scope with a hatchet and Charles M. broke out his vintage Anschutz that pops like a bottle of bubbly with each shot.
As for the match, everything went well and we all had a good time. In round 1, Jim C. pegged 8 piggies and Jim M. went for the wide-bodies with 9's on the pigs and rams. Ron C. proved it’s quality over quantity as the one turkey he plucked turned out to be a gold. In round 2, Jim M. went for porcine perfection with 10 pigs and Ed P. made good with his “Lizzy Borden” scope adjustments as he nailed 8 porkers. Jim F. and Bob J. both went 8-8 on chickens and pigs and Ken J. banged-up 8 rams. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free dozen bagels from Nezuntoz Café. Jim F. picked up where he left off last season as he had the winning ticket but as a previous raffle winner he generously called for a redraw so someone else could win the prize. Another ticket was chosen and the winner was Jason F. - Enjoy, Jason!

Week 2
We had cloudy, cool, and breezy conditions with a few brief showers thrown in for good measure for our second smallbore silhouette shoot of the season. I guess one good thing about the gloomy conditions was that it kept the bugs away. In any event, we still had a good turnout with 17 shooters on the line over 2 rounds. Before the match, weighmaster Pete K. and his trusty scale helped Greg S. shave some weight from his air rifle - nothing a sawzall can't fix, Greg.
In round 1, Pete K. whacked 9 chickens with Jason F. and Rob S. close behind with 8's. The poultry parade continued as Bob J. and Erik S. celebrated a silhouette thanksgiving with 7 turkeys each. Jim F. and Neal S. both had 8 pigs and Rob S. put his offseason air rifle training to good use by pounding 10 pigs - nice shooting, Rob!
In round 2, Neal S. used his new bionic eye to get 8's on the chickens and pigs and a 7 on the rams for a second round total of 29 - nice going, Neal! Jim F. went 8-7 on the chickens and turkeys, Pete K. had 7 rams, Ron C. and Bob J. both had 7 pigs while Paul C. had 8. However, Prince of Pork Rob S. went 19/20 on the pigs overall and had rounds of 29 and 28 - good going, Rob!
We capped things off with a raffle for a gift certificate from Phil's Chicken House. Pat S. pulled the ticket from the can and the winner was...Brian S. - enjoy, Brian!

Week 3
Well we finally had good weather with sunny skies, mild temperatures, and a bit of a breeze for our third shoot of the season. Turnout was good as we cycled 18 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds. Wayne C., Bill T., and Mr. Chong all made their first trip out to the range this season - welcome back guys! Pete K. was having a “scratch and dent sale” on some of his used silhouettes while Greg S. was still checking the weight on his T/C air rifle.
In round 1, Bob J. whacked 7 rams, Jim F. pounded 9 pigs, and then it was crazy 8's as Pete K. and Jim C. plucked 8 chickens and Jim M. and Jim C. pegged 8 pigs. Relay 2 was a family affair as Ron and the boys took the line and Dan and Wayne showed a genetic predisposition to make identical hits on the animals.
In round 2, Jim M. and Ed P. popped 8 cluckers followed by Ron C. and Jim F. with 7's. The pigs took a real beating as Mr. Chong, Paul C., Ken J., Bob J., Jim M., and Bill T. all roasted 8 porkers. Jim M. and Bill T. also had 7's on the turkeys and Greg S. and Ken J. were solid on the rams with a 7 and 9, respectively. Nice shooting folks!
Our festivities concluded as we raffled off a dinner for two at Texas Roadhouse. Mr. Chong put his hits to good use as he won the raffle in absentia with a lot of congratulations from his “friends”!

Week 4
It looked ominous with lots of clouds but the weather held and we had warm and a bit sticky conditions with a slight breeze for week 4 of the smallbore silhouette season. The good conditions helped boost turnout as we cycled 19 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds. Neal S. was eager to try out his second bionic eye and Greg S. was showing off a new Hawke scope with the Microsoft reticle. Dave S. was eager to take some shots with his new Savage in a thumbhole laminate stock while Pete K. was sporting some new hardware he won at a cowboy shoot in PA and raving about the "luxury accommodations" he enjoyed on the trip.
In round 1 Jim F. and Erik S. whacked 8 chickens while Jim C. popped 9 piggies and Ray H., Bob J., and Neal S. had "crazy 8's" on the other white meat. Jim F. and Neal S. bagged 7 turkeys and Ray H. experienced Deja Vu with 8 rams. In round 2, Bob J. wanted an alibi since he was shooting next to Jack E. and Dave L., also known as Abbott and Costello. As for the shooting, Jim F. and Ray H. both had a date with 8 chicks while Mitch C., Jim F., and Bob J. had 7 pigs. Neal S. went for 8 porkers and Erik S. had 9 swine. Jim F. and Bob J. slammed 7 rams and Ray H. just missed an early Thanksgiving with 9 turkeys. Ron C. is proving to be a model of consistency as he posted the same score in rounds 1 and 2 for the second week in a row.
We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Apple Hills. Mr. Chong was on hand to collect his prize from winning last week's raffle and he decided Apple Hills would be a good place for dessert as he went back-to-back with another raffle win this week - go buy a lottery ticket Mr. C!

Week 5
We had just about ideal conditions for week 5 of BCSA Silhouette with warm but comfortable temperatures and just a bit of a breeze to stir the air. But even the best conditions can pose some challenges as was evident when the late day sun angle was tough on the eyes. The good conditions really boosted turnout as we cycled 21 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds. Jim C. brought along first time shooter Tom M. and I think he's hooked - welcome aboard, Tom! Katie A. also took in a little practice to shake off some off-season rust.
In round 1 it was all about the chicken as Mr. Chong, Mitch C., Paul C., and Dave M. all whacked 7 birds while Jim F. and Bob J. bagged 8 and Neal S. brought the hammer down with a perfect 10! Pigs didn't fare much better as Jim F., Ed. P., Rob S., and Neal S. bagged 7 porkers and Bob J. slammed 9 swine. Rob S. slammed the door on 7 rams and Greg S. turned in a nice round 1 total of 19. Charles M.'s rifle got bored so it decided to fire off rounds on its own. Charles decided some discipline was necessary so he gave his rifle a time-out and sent it home.
There was a mass exodus of shooters from round 1 so we were able to consolidate to 1 relay for round 2. Pete K. got tired of shooting silhouette so he just hung around for a while and shot the breeze. Bob J. ruled the roost with 9 chickens and Mitch C. was crowned Prince of Pork with 9 pigs - nice going guys! Neal S. and Bob J. both grabbed 7 gobblers while Jim F. went 8-8 on turkeys and rams for a nice round 2 score of 30.
We wrapped things up with a bonus raffle featuring a free pound of coffee from Tom's and a custom coffee mug courtesy of Diane Lia. There were many tickets given out but Dave L. proved it only takes one to win it as he claimed the prize with his only ticket - Enjoy, Dave!

Week 6
The weather was gloomy throughout the day but the clouds broke up a bit and we had ideal conditions for our shoot. The great conditions helped boots attendance as we cycled 23 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds. Pete K. let Fran M. borrow a rifle so he could have a taste of what silhouette is all about. Dave C. dusted off his blue beauty to join us and Paul D. made a cameo appearance.
In round 1 Rob S. completed another leg of his Grand Slam by nailing 10 chickens - nice shooting, Rob! Paul D., Jim F., Pete K., and Brian S. all popped 8 piggies but Neal S. was all over the bacon with 9. Paul D. bagged 7 turkeys and Paul C. whacked 8 rams for a nice round 1 score of 28 - way to go guys!
In round 2 Jim F. took 10 divine swine while Mr. Chong and Rob S. popped 8 heavenly hens and Rob added another 7 turkeys for good measure. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse. Paul C. parlayed his strong round 1 into an arm's length of tickets and he won the prize - Enjoy, Paul!

Week 7
We were lucky again as the showers stayed away but we still had to contend with warm and humid conditions with an abundant supply of gnats. Turnout was on the light side with 16 shooters but this kept it to one relay for both rounds so things moved right along. Apparently the humid conditions made the paint on the animals quite tacky as they stuck very well to their stands. In round 1 Jocko L. nailed 9 chickens, Bob J. whacked 8 pigs, and Erik S. slammed 8 rams. In round 2 Mr. Chong, Jim F., and Erik S. all had 8 chickens while Brian S. went for 8 pigs and Jim F. popped 9 piggies. Neal S. found his groove with 8 rams and handyman Greg S. was ready to trade in his silhouette gun for a screw gun. We wrapped things up with a raffle for one dozen bagels from Nezuntoz Cafe. Ed P. made his gold animals pay off as he found himself in possession of the winning ticket - Enjoy, Ed!

Week 8
Our sponsor of the week: Michelangelo's!
The weather was less than ideal to say the least as we had rain during set-up followed by cloudy and muggy conditions for our shoot. The weather combined with some shooters preparations for the upcoming silhouette nationals in a few days kept attendance down to 14 shooters on one relay over two rounds. Jocko L. broke out his trusty Mossberg for the occasion and Dave L. was wheeling-and-dealing like a used car salesman.
In round 1 Jim F. thought the game of silhouette was getting too easy so he decided to shoot the turkeys with his scope set for rams. After conducting his "experiment" he got back on track for 8 chickens and 9 pigs. Rob S. went for extra crispy with 9 chickens, Eric S. had a pig roast with 8 pigs, and Neal S. almost bought a full case of 7-Up.
In round 2 Jim F. slammed 9 chickens and Neal S. found his groove with a nice score of 32! Dave S. was contemplating the wisdom of shooting 2 rounds and Greg S. was heading to the nearest automotive service center to have his timing checked. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pizza from Michelangelo's. Jocko L. won the prize in absentia and all of his "friends" were very happy for him - Enjoy, Jocko!

Week 9
After several weeks of questionable weather we finally had ideal conditions with sunshine, pleasant temperatures, and just a bit of a breeze. The good conditions helped boost attendance as we cycled 19 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds. It was a real family affair as we had Chris and his daughter Katie, Ron and his boys Dan and Wayne, Neal and his boys Brian and Erik, and the three generations of Mitch, Jim, and Paul - Welcome to all! In round 1 Neal S. and Jocko L. bagged 8 chickens and Jocko added 7 rams for good measure. And Wayne C. had such a bountiful harvest of 7 pigs (not 5...not 6...but *7* pigs!!!) Dan had to help him reset them all - nice shooting guys! Katie A. was showing very little rust from a long off-season and Chris A. proved that the trigger job was worth it as he shot a personal best of 17!
There was a mass exodus of shooters after round 1 so we consolidated to one relay for round 2. Ron C. stepped it up and plucked 7 chickens on his way to a 17 but it wasn't enough as Wayne C. posted his second 18 of the evening - a personal best! Paul C. also bagged 7 chickens and Neal S. picked the right time to move up to AAA with a score of 29 - nice going guys!
We capped things off with a raffle for dinner for 2 to Cracker Barrel. Chris A. picked a good night to shoot well as he harvested a good number of gold animals and wound up winning the raffle in absentia - Enjoy, Chris!

Week 10
We had warm and humid conditions for our 10th week of BCSA silhouette with some distant thunder rumbling about but we managed to stay dry and had just about ideal shooting conditions for the evening. The good conditions really helped boost attendance as we cycled 22 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds. Bob P. and Joe C. made their first Thursday pilgrimage to the range and junior shooter Zack E. found out just how much fun silhouette shooting really is - welcome to all!
In round 1, switch hitter Jim C. whacked 8 chickens and 8 pigs, Paul C. bagged 8 chickens, Neal S. slammed 8 rams, and Ed P. popped 8 pigs on his way to a personal best score of 24! Katie A. showed her dad how it's done as she edged him out by 2 points, and Dan C. got out to an early lead on Wayne C. In round 2, Jim C., Bob J., and Brian S. all slammed 8 hams and Chris A. and Wayne C. staged stirring comebacks. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a dozen bagels from Nezuntoz Cafe. The gold animals were falling freely all night and in the end, Greg S. was in possession of the winning ticket - Enjoy, Greg!

Week 11
We had just about ideal conditions for week 11 of BCSA silhouette with pleasant temperatures and a some clouds to keep the sun out of our eyes. After a week layoff for the Empire State Games local silhouette addicts needed a fix and the firing line was crowded with 25 shooters in 2 relays over 2 rounds. Joining us for their first taste of silhouette were Geoff K., Ryan P., and Tom P. - Welcome aboard!
In round 1, someone should have called 911 because Erik S. was on fire! With 8 pigs and a strong 9 on the turkeys Erik finished round 1 with an excellent score of 30 - Way to go, Erik! First timer Ryan P. put his sporter rifle experience to good use and nailed 5 turkeys right off the bat! Jim C., Paul C., and Neal S. popped 9 pigs and Jim C. added 9 chickens for good measure. Crazy 8's were also rampant with Pete K., Jocko L., and Neal S. getting 8 chickens, Jim F. and Jocko L. getting 8 pigs, and Ken J. wrapping 8 rams. Katie A. was edging out her dad Chris A., but she had issues with some rather uncooperative rams.
In round 2, Neal S. and Jim F. went for extra crispy with 8 chickens, while Ed P. had himself a personal pig roast with 9 swine followed by Paul C., Ken J., and Neal S. with 8's. Ken J. enjoyed an early holiday with a thanksgiving feast of 9 turkeys, Wayne C. out scored his dad and brother combined, and Greg S. hit the daily double as he increased his score in round 2 by 100%. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Little Venice. And the winning ticket belonged to...Paul C. - Enjoy, Paul!

Week 12
The sky looked rather ominous as week 12 of BCSA Silhouette got underway but conditions held and we stayed dry throughout with just some light sprinkles shortly after cleanup. As a matter of fact conditions were just about ideal with pleasantly cool temperatures, low humidity, and just a bit of a breeze. However turnout was on the light side with 18 silhouetters in 2 relays for round 1. We were happy to have Greg P. on the line after a long hiatus from the sport - Welcome back, Greg! Cowpoke Pete K. brought his cowboy lever guns by mistake so he wound up sharing Jocko's trusty Mossberg for some old school shooting. Jim C. brought along a PA system for us to try out and it made range commands much easier to hear - maybe we can do our own American Idol next week...
In round 1, Jocko L. did his Colonel Sanders impression with 9 chickens followed by Jim F. and Ken J. with 8. Jocko and Bob J. whacked 8 pot bellies each and Mr. Chong and Jim F. added 7 swine for good measure. Neal S. and Eric S. showed a genetic predisposition to shoot either a 5 or a 6 for a total of 22. Wayne C. had some issues with old waxy ammo and Fran M. is still searching for a good scope set up.
There was a mass exodus for round 2 and we were able to consolidate to just 1 relay so things moved right along. Jim F. went 9-8 on chickens and pigs and Jim C. polished off the last 5 turkeys for a very nice 8. 7 was a very popular score in round 2 with the lucky number popping up all over the place. Ken J., Ed P., Erik S., and Neal S. all carded a pair of 7's while Bob J. had 3-of-a-kind. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a dozen bagels from Nezuntoz Cafe. And the luck winner this week was none other than...Jim C. - Enjoy, Jim!

Week 13
We had a pleasant summer evening with ideal conditions for our latest edition of BCSA Silhouette. Despite the pleasant conditions, turnout was on the low side with 16 shooters on the line for one relay over 2 rounds.
In round 1, late arrival Rob S. made the mad dash from car to firing line in a time that would make an Olympic sprinter proud. Pete K. whacked 8 chickens while Chris A., Paul C., Jim F., Jocko L., and Neal S. all followed with 7 birdies. 7's continued to be a popular score as Paul C., Jim F., and Neal S. toppled 7 rams apiece. Neal S. added 8 turkeys for good measure before unleashing an old fashioned whoopin' on the piggies with a perfect 10 - nice going, Neal! Other pork pounders in round 1 were Erik S. and Pete K. with 7's, Jim F. and Jocko L. with 8's, and Rob S. with 9. After round 1 Pete K. made like David Copperfield and did his weekly vanishing act.
For round 2, we were testing out another PA system and MC Marge took the mic to call the match. The hot shooting continued as Paul C. went wide body with 9 pigs and rams for a nifty score of 28. Rob S. went 9 and 10 on chickens and pigs on his way to a 30 and Neal S. finished out a very nice evening as he followed his round 1 score of 32 with a second round of 31. Great shooting guys!
We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pizza from Michelangelo's. Lots of gold animals took it on the chin leading to a hefty haul of raffle tickets. And capping off a great evening of shooting, the winner was...Neal S. - Enjoy, Neal!

Week 14
We had ideal conditions for week 14 of BCSA Silhouette with lots of late August sunshine and pleasant temperatures. The good conditions helped boost attendance with 21 shooters on the line for 2 relays over 2 rounds. Pete K. was so pleased with his latest CZ mod he kept telling people to "feel my trigger" - that's not legal in all 50 states Pete so be careful! We were all set to start round 1 when Mr. Bunny decided to do some grazing right behind the chickens. Jocko L. fired a warning shot across the bow to scare him away but Mr. Bunny was not impressed so I had to go down range to escort him to safety. After closing the BCSA petting zoo we got underway. Jim F., Ed P., and Erik S. all got a great 8 on chickens while Rob S. added 8 pigs to his tally. Jocko L. felt the weight of the "pressure pig" as he ran 9-in-a-row but number 10, inspired by the earlier display of Mr. Bunny, defiantly stood his ground and remained upright. Pete K. led the charge on rams with 8 followed by Ken J. and Rob S. with 7's. After Katie A. jumped out to an early lead on her dad, Chris A. rolled the bones and broke out the turkey voodoo doll to deny Katie A. a final victory before she returns to school.
After round 1, there was a mass exodus of shooters as Pete K. led his people out of the parking lot. This allowed us to consolidate to one relay for round 2 so things moved along right quick. Ken J. and Erik S. nailed 9 chickens each while Rob S. and Brian S. went for 8's. Jim F. and Rob S. came in with 9 swine while Ron C. and Dave L. were in pork heaven with 7's. Erik s. and Neal S. both turned in a strong 7 on turkeys while Jim F. and Rob S. went for 7 rams each. Bob J. had a great run on rams going with 7-in-a-row but his quest for 10 came up just short at 9 - maybe next week, Bob!
We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Number 5. Jim F. parlayed his strong round 2 score of 30 into lots of gold animals and raffle tickets, giving him the win in the raffle - enjoy, Jim!

Week 15
The sky was ominous with thick cloud cover over the area all day but the rain stayed just to our west and we had pretty good conditions for our final Thursday shoot of the season with pleasant temperatures and no wind to contend with. Some shooters wanted to get in one more shoot before the long off-season and others wanted a tune-up before our regional match in 2 days so we wound up with 18 shooters over 2 relays for round 1. Marge C. got in some practice calling the match from the silhouette throne, though with the behavior of some shooters perhaps we should convert it into a highchair.
In round 1, Jocko L. did the chicken dance with 9 birds, Jim F. pounded 8 pigs, and Pete K. whacked 7 turkeys. Bob J. wanted an alibi for the turkeys but Jocko doesn't quite count as a range malfunction.
In round 2, Brian S. popped 9 chickens followed by and Ed P. with 8. Jim F. had a nice run with 9 pigs and Ron C. got in a groove for 8. Paul C. toppled 7 turkeys and Neal S. slammed 9 rams. Bob J. had fewer distractions to deal with until his "buddy" called his cell phone just to say hello - makes you want to reach out and touch someone, eh Bob?
We concluded with our raffle for a $10 gift card from Gander Mountain. The gold rush was on with lots of tickets given out, but it was Jack E. who emerged with the winning ticket - congrats, Jack!

Smallbore Cowboy
Saturday: April 19   May 17   June 21   July 19   August 16   September 20
Our sponsor of the week: Michelangelo’s Ristorante!
The BCSA got the 2008 smallbore cowboy silhouette season underway under nearly ideal conditions - mostly sunny and summerlike warmth. I say nearly ideal because a gusty breeze kicked up during the shoot to make things a bit interesting. We have 2 full sets of animals this year so we can go with 8 per relay to help things move along. The range layout functioned well but the rotation is a bit like “musical chairs” since some firing positions are scattered to match the target spacing. Turnout was good with 15 on the line for round 1, and we welcomed 2 new shooters as Jacob S. and Corinne D. decided to try their hand at the cowboy game - welcome aboard!
Chicken and the “other white meat” were on the menu in round 1 as Dale B. and Ray H. both clocked 10 cluckers and Dale B. and Joe C. pegged 10 piggies. Ray H., Pete K., and Dave S. had 9 swine each, Josh L. had 8 turkeys, and Joe C. had 8 rams. In round 2, Dale B. continued to pound the pork with another 10 and Jim M. came oh-so-close to completing his grand slam with a run of 9 on the rams. By the end of the match many folks were looking for a “silhouette shuttle” when it came time to reset the animals.
We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pizza from Michelangelo’s Ristorante. Tickets were awarded based on a combined 2 round total score from the chickens. Ray H. parlayed his good day on the chickens into a free pizza as he had the winning ticket - Enjoy, Ray!

Our sponsor of the week: Little Venice!
We got things started with some sunshine but the clouds rolled in and we finished with a few sprinkles and a cool breeze. Attendance was light with 11 shooters on the line so things moved along right quick. In round 1 Ray H. and Jim M. whacked 10 pigs while Jim F. and Dave S. has 9 swine apiece. Ray H. went on to add 9 rams to his total for good measure. In round 2 Jim M. continued to pound the pork with another 10 followed by Paul C. and Ray H. with 9's while Bill C. had a nice run of 8. And Jim M. was forced to keep a cork in the champagne as he came up just 1 shy of perfection on the rams, so his quest for 10 to complete his Grand Slam will continue. Sounds like an Indiana Jones movie - Jim M. and the quest for the 10th ram.
We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate from Little Venice. Gold animals made their first appearance on the cowboy range and the gold total was used to determine how many tickets were awarded to shooters. Many tickets went out but in the end it was David S. who had the winning numbers - Enjoy Dave!

Our sponsor of the week: Number 5/Lampey's!
We got underway with mild and sunny conditions for our cowboy silhouette shoot. First time silhouette shooter Dan B. joined returning veterans Butch R. and Jake S. on the line along with marathon man Dave L. who was shooting his 5th and 6th match of the day! Dale B. was pressed for time so he shot back-to-back and Paul C. was having so much fun we went back-to-back, too. The steel critters proved to be rather elusive as there were many 8's and 9's but 10's were hard to come by. In round 1 Dale B. popped 10 chickens and 10 pigs while Paul C. collected 10 pigs, his first 10 in silhouette ever - way to go, Paul! In round 2 the pigs took it on the chin as Paul C. and Jim M. nailed all 10 and "happy guy" Ray H. and Bob J. wiped out all 20 pigs in their relay! We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Number 5/Lampey's. And the winning ticket belonged to...Dave S. - Enjoy, Dave!

Our sponsor of the week: Apple Hills!
Our recent spell of warm and oppressively humid weather continued to grip the area for our smallbore cowboy silhouette shoot and this probably played a factor in keeping turnout on the light side. We were able to get everyone into 2 relays including first time shooters Cathy C. and Zack E. who wanted to see what the cowboy game was all about - welcome aboard folks! The piggies bore the brunt of the action as they gave up a few 10's but the other animals were more fortunate. Apparently the pigs took out their frustration on Jack E. in round 2 as they gave him a pork belly beat down to prevent him from writing down his score. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate to Apple Hills, and the winner was...Dale B. - Congratulations, Dale!

Our Sponsor of the week: Tom's Coffee, Cards & Gifts!
We continued to enjoy good shooting conditions for our mid day smallbore cowboy shoot with sunshine and just a bit of a breeze. Dave S. brought his son Kevin along to give the cowboy game a try and Cathy C. continues to hone her skills on her quest to become the next Annie Oakley. 10's were hard to come by in round 1 as only Jim C. cleaned his pigs to complete another leg toward his Grand Slam - nice going, Jim! Things picked up a bit for round 2 as Jim F. and Bob J. were makin' bacon with 10 pigs each and Ray H. went 10-10 on chickens and pigs for a score of 34 - nice going guys!
We wrapped things up with a raffle for a pound of coffee from Tom's PLUS a ceramic mug courtesy of Diane Lia. Ray H. blasted enough gold animals to earn a good number of raffle tickets and emerged as the winner - Congratulations, Ray! After the match Dave L. was trying to give Ray H. directions to Tom's to claim his coffee. Fearing that he would end up in Vermont, Ray decided on another course of action and simply swapped prizes with Dave from one of his previous raffle wins. In the end Ray H. wound up with 2 ceramic mugs and Dave L. now has 2 pounds of coffee coming from Tom's - and no one ended up in Vermont!

We had just about perfect late summer weather for our final smallbore cowboy silhouette shoot of the season with mild temperatures and just a light breeze to stir the air. Despite the excellent conditions turnout was light with only 11 shooters on the line over 2 relays. Ray H. brought Frank S. along for his first taste of SB cowboy shooting and he's hooked - welcome aboard, Frank! In round 1, Paul C., Ray H., and Butch R. all nailed 10 pigs while the rest of the animals got off relatively easy. In round 2, Jack E. whacked 10 pigs while Paul C. bagged 10 turkeys to complete another leg of his Grand Slam. He almost got 10 rams but after running the first 9, number 10 was stubborn and just wouldn't cooperate. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a smallbore squirrel target. With all the financial uncertainly in the markets, Jim C. cashed in his gold animals for a winning raffle ticket and took home the squirrel - enjoy, Jim!

The BCSA kicked off the 2008 air rifle silhouette season with ideal weather conditions - mostly sunny and mild with just a bit of a breeze. After many foul weather shoots in 2007, hopefully the excellent conditions will be an indicator of things to come! Attendance was good with 6 shooters on the line for round 1. There was a good amount of rust to shake off from the long offseason and turkeys and rams were behaving more like skunks. Pat S. and Dave L. both took different routes to a score of 15 and Greg S. took the road less traveled to a 12. Greg S. shifted gears in round 2 with a 7 on the pigs and a total of 19, but Dave L. was also right there with his own score of 19. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pound of coffee from Tom’s Coffee, Cards, & Gifts. With tickets awarded based on a 2 round total from the pigs, Bill C. made his hits count as he was in possession of the winning ticket - Way to go, Bill!

The timing of our early morning shoot was perfect as we enjoyed sunshine and great conditions for air rifle silhouette. We had our first outdoor shoot so folks could get an outdoor classification for our upcoming championship match in August. We still had shelter though as pop-up tent canopies were used for cover and our new convertible benches were used to provide makeshift shooting stations.
Pat S. whacked 7 pigs in round 1 while Bill C. proved to be the model of consistency as he posted identical scores in rounds 1 and 2. Greg S. "found a groove" for round 2 and posted a solid score of 21. We concluded our festivities with a raffle for a free pizza from Michelangelo's Ristorante. The 2 round total score on rams was used to distribute tickets and Pat S. made her hits count as she had the winning ticket - Enjoy, Pat!

Our sponsor of the week: Sharkey's!
It was a cool and foggy start but conditions rapidly improved and we had great weather for our morning air rifle silhouette shoot. Dave L. was shooting 2 classes so he had a long day ahead of him. Greg S. was trying to verify the settings on his Microsoft reticle and Dana B. was contemplating the dieseling of his HW - was that bio-diesel, Dana?
In round 1, the turkeys had the last laugh as they proved to be quite tough and Dave L. was starting to rethink his strategy. Things improved a bit for round 2 but all in all it was just "one of those days". We wrapped things up with a raffle for a gift certificate from Sharkey's. Tickets were distributed based on the 2 round total of chickens and Dave L. made his target rifle pay off as he parlayed his 11 chickens into a raffle win - Enjoy, Dave!

There was plenty of room on the firing line for our morning silhouette shoot as many airheads headed north to attend the Baldwinsville airgun show. Perhaps they skipped the show and kept going north to escape the warm and muggy conditions we had to contend with. Things moved right along with only one relay and we were all done in short order. We skipped the raffle in favor of a "rock, paper, scissors" contest but Greg threw in the towel, leaving Pat as the winner of a free pound of coffee from Tom's with a ceramic mug by Diane Lia - Congratulations, Pat!

We had pleasant conditions for our Saturday morning air rifle shoot with some sunshine and little wind to contend with. Bill T. drove up for the cowboy shoot but got to the range a tad bit early. However he put his time to good use by shooting his first ever air rifle match using our club gun, a Crosman Discovery. Dave L. and Greg S. were shooting multiple guns to tune up for our upcoming regional match and Fran M. decided to give it a try with his Crosman 1077 CO2 gun. Bill C. was on a hot streak but his quest for perfection came to an end with a flier on pigs in round 2. Greg S. and Bill T. both found their groove and turned in scores of 21 in round 2. We wrapped things up with a raffle for a pound of coffee from Tom's and Dave L. was the lucky winner and claimed the prize (more on this in the smallbore cowboy recap).

We had a very pleasant late summer morning for our final air rifle silhouette shoot of the season with cool temperatures and just a hint of a breeze. The weather was so good even Bob J. came out to join in! Fran M. was testing out his new Simmons scope and Dave L. was "very quiet" with his reassembled Falcon PCP. In round 1, Bob J. was all over the animals with his new Air Arms PCP and fired a very nice score of 31 - Nice going, Bob!. Dave L. got a reality check on the turkeys and Greg S. and Pat S. were "quietly" finding a new zero with Dave's Falcon. In round 2, Bob J. flirted with 10 perfect chicks but ultimately got rejected. Pat S. whacked 7 rams while Greg S. popped 8 piggies on his way to a nice round 2 total of 22 - nice shooting folks! We wrapped things up with a raffle for a new buffalo swinging target. Bob J. converted his good scores to lots of raffle tickets that ultimately won him the prize - enjoy, Bob!
