Week 1 Recap
All in all, we had less than optimal weather for our first shoot of the season - steady rain during set-up and a few sprinkles throughout the evening. But these conditions were not enough to deter our diehard silhouette crowd as we had 16 shooters on the line with 2 relays for round 1! It was nice to see several new faces mixed in with the “regulars” with Joe C. And Matt L. Joining us for their first ever silhouette match. We all learned that Pete K. travels with a portable scale in his car so if you ever see him driving down the road and you need a quick weight on your rifle, just flag him down.
As for the match, apparently if your name was Jim it was a good night. Jim M. paced the field with a 30 in round 1 and Jim F. put his new stock to work and matched that score in round 2. And to cap things off, the gold animals were kind to Jim F. as he won the raffle for one pound of coffee from Tom’s Coffee, Cards & Gifts.

Super Silhouette Saturday May 20
Our stretch of gloomy weather continued through Super Silhouette Saturday with cloudy, cool, and breezy conditions. Ray H. made his first visit to the BCSA range after a brief tour of the Southern Tier giving us 9 shooters on the line for round 1.
Ken J. had a nice day with scores of 31 and 30 and Jim M. shook off the rust in round 2 nailing consecutive 10's on rams and chickens. Despite some impressive scores and lots of gold animals, junior shooter Ben D. proved “you have to be in it to win it” as his one raffle ticket proved to be the winner of a gift certificate for dinner for 2 to Cracker Barrel. Way to go Big Ben!
After smallbore, we had a rootin’ tootin’ good time converting the range into the OK Corral for smallbore cowboy silhouette. This event proved to be pure shooting pleasure and our expert marksmen gave the plump ˝ scale targets a good whoopin’! “Quick Draw” Jim M. almost completed his cowboy Grand Slam in one day! He tried to buy 10 rams from “Jesse James” Jim F. but long term financing couldn’t be arranged. “Wild” Ray H. was quite happy he didn’t shoot himself right into master class! With a bunch of raffle tickets floating around, WRH had the winning hand and took home a gift certificate for a free pizza from Michelangelo’s.
SSS wrapped up with air rifle. After a long day and battling windy conditions AR was limited to one round. Dave L. provided the PCP’s and was rewarded for his efforts by winning the raffle for free bread from Montana Mills. Not a bad day’s work Dave!

Week 2 Recap
The weather looked a bit ominous early on but things improved and we enjoyed good conditions throughout our shoot. It was nice to once again have first-time shooters join us "seasoned" (or is it "salty") veterans on the line. Chris A. and Ed. P. shared a rifle with a nifty stutzen stock and Matt L. already has aftermarket parts on the way to trick out his 10/22. Turnout continues to be strong as we cycled 18 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds. In round 1, Bob J. plunked 9 chickens, Jim M. downed 9 pigs, and Ray H. bullied the rams with a 9 of his own. In an interesting quirk of fate, Jim M. and myself shot back-to-back 9's on the pigs only to have each of us leave the gold pig standing!
In round 2 we lost a few shooters but added a few more to just about break even. Ray H. and Jim M. pummeled the chickens with scores of 9 and 10, respectively. Dave L. broke out the magic silhouette pixie dust and shot a new personal best with a 20 - way to go, Dave!
Round 2 concluded at 8:00PM on the dot and we wrapped things up with our first edition of "Shooters for Hooters" as the prize of the week was 20 free wings from Hooters. There were many tickets floating around but Dave L. turned up the mojo one last time to cap off a successful evening by winning the raffle.

Week 3 Recap
Well, our luck finally ran out with the weather. After several weeks of near-misses with rain we took a direct hit shortly after round 1 began. Lightning and lots of rain lead to a 40 minute weather delay (more info on lightning safety can be found here: www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov). Pete K. got washed out for the second day in a row and Matt L. decided to head for higher ground until he gets a better zero on his scope. The rest of us intrepid "silly wet" shooters toughed it out and finished the round. Although the weather turned cool and damp, Jim F. was hot and lead the way with a very nice round of 32. And of course the majority shareholder of Phil's Chicken House, Jim M., won the raffle for the Phil's Chicken House Gift Certificate.

Week 4 Recap
Our string of bad weather continued for week 4 of BCSA Silhouette with cool and rainy conditions prevailing throughout the evening. However, silhouette shooters are not easily deterred and we cycled 14 shooters through 2 rounds. Rob S. even drove up in the rain from PA with his Marlin to join the festivities. Bob J. was showing off his new empty chamber indicator that I'm sure will be off to the custom shop to be tricked out. Pete "Buy My Ammo" K. was busy setting up a retail operation specializing in ammunition sales and a pay-per-ounce rifle weighing service. And Matt L. continued his quest to build the ultimate 10/22 by adding a bull barrel to his rig.
Once the match began the targets really started to fly. Neal S. and Jim F. gave the chickens all they could take in round 1 with scores of 9 and 10, respectfully (looks like money well spent on that new stock, Jim!). And in round 2, Neal S. whacked an incredible 10 turkeys in a row - Great shooting Neal! I bet #10 was smooth as butter! To wrap things up, Dave L. continued his hot streak by winning the gift certificate to Little Venice. Enjoy!

Week 5 Recap
Well it was about time! We finally caught a break with the weather and had a very pleasant evening with a bit of a breeze for our shoot. The nice weather certainly gave a boost to out turnout as we rolled out the welcome mat for 21 shooters in round 1. Ernie M. from CT was passing through and dropped into join us, setting up his display of smallbore and cowboy targets for our perusal. Ron C. was drumming up some gunsmithing business for his uncle, but most of us would benefit more from having work done on our trigger fingers instead of our triggers.
Round 1 went off without a hitch and the crowd thinned a bit for round 2. Luckily for Bob J., his missing clip was located after a brief search - Hey Bob, is that an Anschutz clip in your pocket or are you just happy to be shooting silhouette?!? And I believe this was the inaugural meeting for the local chapter of Choke-aholics Anonymous. Jim F. and myself both felt the wrath of the "pressure pig" and settled for 9-in-a-row (for me, it was almost a double whammy had that last little piggy not fainted in round 1). Ernie M. and Neal S. both met similar fates as they settled for 9's on the turkeys. For Neal, this was only a minor blip as he was on his way to a stellar round of 34 - great shooting Neal! Neal was rewarded with a handful of raffle tickets for his efforts and used them well as he won the gift certificate for a free pizza from Michelangelo's.

Super Silhouette Saturday June 17
After a brief shower very early in the morning, Super Silhouette Saturday was dominated by very pleasant and warm conditions with a bit of a breeze to stir the air. Turnout was quite nice for a Saturday event with a strong showing from PA giving us 15 shooters on the line through 2 rounds. In round 1, Wes F. let Joe C. share his gun and Joe is now developing a taste for Anschutz. Meanwhile, I continued to devise new and exciting ways to miss pig #10. When it was time for the raffle, Dave L. and Neal S. wanted to see who had a longer one (string of raffle tickets, that is). But it was Jim F. who parlayed his tickets into a gift certificate for a free pound of coffee from Tom's Coffee, Cards & Gifts. Congratulations, Jim! Just don't drink too much java before a shoot.
We changed gears for the afternoon and broke out the cowboy guns for some real fun. We had 9 buckaroos to cycle through so after a brief discussion we settled on 2 relays over a 60 shot match. Shooters would take strings of 5 with the next relay resetting the targets after each string. Bob J. sand blasted his way to 6 rams and Jim F. found out that the "pressure pig" can show up anywhere at any time. Jack E. was slamming some serious pork while Jim M. and Bob J. decided to shoot at each others pigs. Joe C. then decided to give Bob a hand by knocking his turkeys down for him. It was an eventful shoot for Bob! And Dave L. met with much success during his first shoot - not bad for zeroing his rifle right before the shoot began! Ol' Dead Eye Jim M. had himself a regular Thanksgiving feast by taking 37 turkeys over a long-run shoot that ended when a defiant turkey would not budge - even after 6 shots! The cowboy raffle was based on total score from the chickens but the crowd had already dispersed by the time the raffle was held. So, in absentia, the winner of the free loaf of bread from Montana Mills/Great Harvest Bread Co. was Ray H.

Week 6 Recap
Our streak of good weather continued for week 6 with early summertime conditions prevailing. Turnout continues to be strong with 16 shooters over 2 relays on the line for round 1. Charles M. spent the warm-up period fabricating an impromptu shell deflector while Wes F. was reminiscing about his trip last summer to the wild, wild west (gotta do a cowboy shoot, Wes). Everything was going smoothly until Bob J. experienced a "wardrobe malfunction" - why does this kind of stuff always happen to Bob? However, Bob is a trooper and he was able to work through the loss of his autographed shooting hat. And for the first time we expereinced the loss of a cast metal chicken when the poor guy had his feet blown off! Three cheers for the spare chicken. To wrap things up, Wes F. used his twin 18's to his best advantage by winning the raffle for a free dozen bagels from Nezuntoz Cafe!

Week 7 - Cancelled due to flood damage
Week 8 Recap
What a difference a week makes! As the region continues to recover from the devastating floods of a week ago, the silhouette range is back in operation - just watch out for the large "pot hole" in the parking lot and the treacherous footing downrange through the old creek bed. Turnout was good with 14 shooters on the line over 2 relays for round 1. Dave G. stopped by for a hunting season tune-up, Jack E. was dispensing x-rated shooting tips, and Wes F. was beginning his second career as a travel agent. The prospect of western travel apparently inspired Wes as he turned in a personal best score of 21 in round 1 - nice going, Wes! The crowd thinned a bit for round 2 but Neal S. stuck around and fired a very nice 30. We wrapped things up with our raffle and Rob S. in his appropriate "Aussie"-styled hat walked away with a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse - Enjoy!

Week 9 Recap
Pleasant summertime conditions dominated for week 9 of BCSA Silhouette with warm temperatures and just a bit of a breeze. Turnout was on the light side with 11 shooters through 1 relay, but Pete "Skipper" K. and Bob J. were in attendance, back in town from the Smallbore Silhouette Nationals in Ridgway, PA. Bob actually won the A-class competition in a shoot-off - nice going, Bob!
In round 1, Dave L. nailed 7 rams and got his first ever 5-in-a-row! Pete "Skipper" K. was having issues getting acquainted with his fancy trigger, and Wayne C. and Dan C. were locked in a dead heat for bragging rights. Ben F. fired a 17 over 2 rounds on chickens but found the rest of the animals quite challenging, especially since he left his scope settings chart at home. And in the end, Wayne edged Dan by 2. We wrapped things up by raffling off a free loaf of bread from Great Harvest Bread Company. Wes F. won the first drawing but as a past winner opted to pass on the prize (don't believe that Atkins stuff, Wes - bread is your friend). On the re-draw, Ron C. was bringing home the bread.

Super Silhouette Saturday July 15
Conditions were warm and wet with occasional showers through the smallbore silhouette portion of SSS, but a little summer rain couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of local silhouette shooters! We all donned the rain gear and Bob J. broke out his "dumbrella" hat for the occasion. Matt L. made his return to the line from a vacation in South Africa and Neal S. was able to shake Brian and Erik out of bed for the 10AM relay call. With 10 shooters on the line in one relay everything went pretty quick. Neal S. set the pace with a 29 in round 1, followed by Rob S. with a 25 and Jim F. with a 23. In round 2, Jim F. had himself a pig roast and pegged 10 piggies on his way to a 28. Bob J. had a solid 26 as did Neal S. We wrapped things up with another edition of the ever popular "Shooters for Hooters". Wes was the winner of the raffle for 20 free wings from Hooters but, he felt it would be hard to explain to his wife why declined the free loaf of bread on Thursday only to claim a prize from Hooters on Saturday. How does that saying go? Never look gift Hooters in the mouth? On the re-draw Bob J. was more than happy to claim the free wings with his winning ticket.
The rain ended and conditions improved for cowboy smallbore in the afternoon. Everyone was on target but apparently someone forgot to tell the animals they were supposed to fall down when hit. Several pigs were hit rock solid but did not go down. Upon further review they were blown several inches back from their pedestals and were simply standing in the grass! And it was hard to keep track of how many "ringing rams" never budged. Wes F. was quite pleased to get his first ever 5-in-a-row on pigs and then again on chickens - nice shooting Wes! We capped things off with a raffle for one dozen free bagels from Nezuntoz Cafe. Bob J. continued his hot streak by winning the raffle. So by winning prizes from Hooters and Nezuntos Bob has just about all the body parts covered. Enjoy, Bob!

Week 10 Recap
We had warm and muggy summertime shooting conditions for week 10 of BCSA Silhouette and the turnout was great! We cycled 21 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds! Brad A. joined us as a first time silhouette shooter and Ish made his first visit to our range this season with his scout-style rifle and scope. Jim F. also did his part by getting John F. and Dave M. to the line. In round 1, Jim F. turned in a solid score of 29 while Bob J. was having fun just turning pigs (how did you get that pig turned 90 degrees, Bob?). Neal S. had a good round going until he became ill with turkeyitis (there's a lot of that going around this year). Despite the sudden "illness" Neal still turned in a fine score of 27.
In round 2, Jim F. continued his hot shooting with a score of 32 - nice job, Jim! And in a tale of perseverance, Rob S. went from an 18 in round 1 to a personal best of 29 in round 2, solidifying his AAA classification - way to go, Rob! We wrapped things up with a raffle for a free pound of coffee from Tom's Coffee, Cards & Gifts. Wes F. has really got the mojo in full gear as he won the raffle yet again. Luckily for Wes, coffee is on his list of safe prizes to accept. Time to play Powerball, Wes!

Week 11 Recap
The weather was "iffy" at best with a brief thunderstorm just after set-up, but we made it through the shoot dry. The threatening conditions kept attendance down to just the hardcore shooters with 6 on the line for round 1 and 8 for round 2. Jim F. lead the way in round 1 with 10 chickens on his way to a very nice score of 30. Jim kept up his hot shooting by nailing 9 pigs and 9 turkeys for a round 2 total of 29. However, Neal S. had "lady luck" on his side as he won this weeks raffle which featured a gift certificate to Texas Roadhouse - Enjoy, Neal!

Week 12 Recap
We continue our weekly struggle to dodge raindrops and once again we were lucky. A little rain during set-up and a little rain during practice but the match was dry and, thankfully, a bit cooler than recent days! Despite the threatening conditions, eleven intrepid shooters were on the line for one relay over two rounds. Matt L. brought Greg S. out to the range for his first ever silhouette shoot - Welcome aboard, Greg! In round 1, Neal S. and Jim F. both felt the heat of the "pressure pig" as number 10 remained firmly in place. In round 2 Neal S. completed a fine evening with scores of 31 and 30 and Wes F. nailed 7 turkeys on his way to a new personal best of 22 - nice shooting guys! We wrapped things up with another "Shooters for Hooters" raffle with 20 wings from Hooters on the line. Jim F. was the lucky winner and quite happy to finally have an excuse...er...reason to stop in and try their wings. It's all about the wings, Jim!

Week 13 Recap
BCSA Silhouette enjoyed ideal conditions for week 13 - and it's about time! The weather was pleasant with a cool breeze and, dare I say, perhaps just a touch of fall in the air. The great weather really brought out a crowd as we cycled 19 shooters through 2 relays over 2 rounds. We even had an interested spectator! It was great to see new faces on the line with Mark A. and Ed P. joining us for the first time - welcome aboard, gentlemen! Chris A. was back "shooting from the hip" after being in the shop for repairs. Ray H. and Ken J. even made the trip up from PA - maybe next week we can "pass the hat" to pay for your gas. In round 1, Jocko made all his shots count on his way to a perfect 4-gold-animal round. In round 2, Ed P. reached a new personal best of 17 and Jim F. was the "big pig" taking down all 10 piggies - nice shooting, guys! We wrapped things up with a dual raffle for a free loaf of bread from The Great Harvest Bread Co. Jim F. won raffle number 1 and Jocko hit the jackpot by winning raffle number 2 in absentia.

Week 14 Recap
BCSA Silhouette enjoyed more great weather for week 14 with pleasantly warm temperatures and a little breeze. Now if we could just do something about the gnats! Turnout was great with 16 shooters on the line for 2 relays in round 1 and 12 remaining for round 2. Local "air head" Dan D. even dropped by for a taste of rimfire before starting air rifle in September. In round 1, Jim F. and Jocko L. ran 9 chickens and pigs, respectively, and Neal S. ran 8 turkeys in a row after the first two proved to be uncooperative. Round 2 saw Ray H. make a nice run also on the turkeys with a 9 while Ed P. was doing the "chicken dance" trying to find out exactly how hard he could hit the chickens without knocking them over. And Jim F. proved that he is indeed the "Prince of Pork" by bagging 10 piggies once again - great shooting guys! Our raffle featured a very nice prize this week - $40.00 in gift certificates from our sponsor, Number 5. While the gold rush was on with animals falling left and right, Erik S. emerged with the winning ticket - congratulations, Erik!

Super Silhouette Saturday August 19
Well, our string of good weather came to an abrupt end on Super Silhouette Saturday as we were forced to dodge raindrops throughout the day. The less than ideal weather kept attendance down to 8 hearty souls for 1 relay over 2 rounds. Even Jack E. was able to drag himself out of bed for the occasion! And the true friend that he is, he offered free medical advise to aid Bob's aching back - what a guy! Both rounds of smallbore went off without a hitch and we capped things off with a raffle for a dozen free bagels from Nezuntos Cafe. While Jack E. had other plans for the bagels, Ken J. was the lucky raffle winner so those babies are headed to PA - congratulations, Ken!
After a brief break to change targets, it was time for smallbore cowboy silhouette. Our amigo Jim M. joined the posse and we were hot on the on the trail of those elusive steel critters. Jack E. got us started with 10 pigs in round 1 and it proved to be a tough day for cowboy pork as Jim F., Ray H., and myself also claimed 10 pigs in round 1. Round 2 got off to a roaring start as all members of relay 2 nailed 10's on the first animal. Bob J. popped 10 chickens and rams and Ray H. will sing the sad cowboy ballad of the turkey that got away. By the end, all us cowpokes were ready to call it a day and Dave L. was ready to use his frequently malfunctioning rifle as a tent stake. And as the winner of the raffle, Bob J. will be picking up his free pound of cowboy coffee from Tom's Coffee, Cards & Gifts on his way to the chiropractor.

Week 15 Recap
The weather forecast was ominous once again but we lucked out and had decent weather for the shoot with some cloud cover and dry conditions throughout. Area shooters want to squeeze as much silhouette shooting in as possible before the end of the season so round 1 packed with 19 shooters over 2 relays. Things thinned out quite a bit for round 2 with only us diehards sticking around. During practice, innovative Pete K. was trying to convince Ray H. that according to the rule book almost every shot should count as a miss. Meanwhile, someone's lucky shot popped a paint can left in the line of fire by a very lax range official - Now who could that be?!? Round 1 saw Dave L. have a good 'ol time plinking the piggies while Matt L. was getting ready to put his rifle to "bed". Ray H. was confronted by some backward rams and Greg S. shot the round terrified that his wife may give up her role as supportive spectator and pick up a rifle to show him how it's done. Round 2 saw the "Sultan of Swine" Jim F. turn another 10 pigs into sausage and Ray H. almost made it a two-fer with his 9 pigs-in-a-row - Great shooting guys! We wrapped things up with our raffle which this week featured a gift certificate to Cortese restaurant. Lots of tickets were awarded but in the end, Ed P. was the lucky winner - Enjoy!

Week 16 Recap
We enjoyed good conditions for our last smallbore silhouette shoot of the season with pleasantly cool temperatures and a light breeze. Many shooters took advantage of the weather to squeeze in a few more hits and we cycled 15 shooters through 2 relays in round 1 and 10 shooters in 1 relay for round 2. Pete K. conducted a seminar on the finer points of set triggers and how they relate to silhouette rules. Jocko L. thought the weather was a bit nippy so he did his best Michael Jackson impersonation and donned some gloves for the occasion. Matt L. realized he "had a screw loose" and was confident he had solved the problem. In round 1, Jocko continued his hot streak and moon-walked his way to a very nice 28. Ray H. and Neal S. were also "ram tough" as they each tallied solid 8's on the rams. After round 1, all the planets (even Pluto) must have come into alignment because Pete K. stuck around for round 2! Round 2 saw Bob P. score a very nice 7 on the chickens and Neal S. had a fine 9 on the swine. We capped things off with a raffle for one dozen free bagels from Nezuntoz Cafe. While many gold animals led to many raffle tickets, the lucky winner was Bob P. - Enjoy those bagels, Bob!

Smallbore Cowboy
Super Silhouette Saturday May 20
We had a rootin’ tootin’ good time converting the range into the OK Corral for smallbore cowboy silhouette.

Super Silhouette Saturday June 17
So, in absentia, the winner of the free loaf of bread from Montana Mills/Great Harvest Bread Co. was Ray H.

Super Silhouette Saturday July 15
Enjoy, Bob!

Super Silhouette Saturday August 19

Saturday September 30
We had quite variable weather for our encore performance of smallbore cowboy silhouette with some sun and a little warmth at the start followed by clouds, rain, and a chilling wind by the end. None of this was of any concern to us weather-beaten cowpokes who came out to shoot. And shoot we did! Ray H. got things started with a 10 on the pigs in round 1, and in round 2 the 10's really started to pile up. New shooters Louis B. and Dandy Dan D. got 10's on the pigs, as did Jim M. and Jim F. Jim F. also popped 10 chickens and Ray H. completed his SB Cowboy Grand Slam by plinking 10 turkeys - nice shooting, Ray! We capped things off with a raffle for the coveted BCSA Silhouette mug, and it found a new home with Jim F.

Saturday September 9
We got off to a foggy start but things improved as we went along and conditions were ideal for a morning air rifle shoot. It was our first time on the new range and it's going to work out great! The resettable targets are working much better - just pull the string slooowly. Bill C. came out and got his feet wet as he was attending his first ever air rifle silhouette shoot (yep, the targets are smaller than soda cans). Dan D. was anxious to test his newly tuned baby and Dave L. had to tame his beasts to go easy on the targets. As for the shooting, the turkeys were in no mood to cooperate and made things difficult for everyone. Dave L. found a comfort zone on the other poultry in round 2 and pegged 9 chickens - nice shooting, Dave! We capped things off with an air rifle edition of "Shooters for Hooters" raffle featuring 20 free wings from Hooters. The lucky winner was Dan D. who broke into a spontaneous celebration as he learned of his good fortune- enjoy, Dan!

Saturday September 16
We had cloudy but pleasant and dry conditions for our latest edition of air rifle silhouette. We were happy to welcome first time AR silhouette shooters Dana B. and Mike V. to the line - welcome aboard! Bill C. was back for more and he was anxious to take a crack at the little white critters with his new Gamo Viper. We fired 2 relays of 3 shooters over 2 rounds for our course of fire. In round 1, Dan D. and Mike V. both had good runs on the rams but either the first bank or the second bank just wouldn't cooperate. In round 2, Dave L. found the magic number 10 to be elisive as he pegged 9 chickens for the second week in a row. Our raffle this week featured a combo prize package - a BCSA Silhouette mug with a certificate for a free beverage of your choice from Applebee's on Front Street. Despite overwhelming odds, Dana B. was the lucky winner and took home the goods - Cheers, Dana!

Saturday September 23
We had some brief passing showers during set up and practice but conditions were generally dry with a tricky breeze to deal with throughout our air rifle shoot. With the "iffy" weather only the diehard air rifle silhouette guys dargged themselves out of bed and made the trek to the range. Everything went off without a hitch but someone forgot to tell the animals they were supposed to fall down. Dan D. was content to blame it on the wind...and loose stock screws of course. We wrapped things up with a raffle featuring a repeat prize package from last week - a free beverage of choice from Applebees and a BCSA Silhouette mug. Dan D. emerged from the crowd victorious with winning ticket in hand - congrats, Dan!

Saturday September 30
It was a cold and frosty morning at the 'ol air rifle but the sun was up and the temperature was warming steadily throughout the shoot. While this made for a gradually more comfortable shoot, the changing temperatures of both the equipment and the air played havoc with the trajectory down range! Bob J. finally made a shoot and brought his "bumble bee" Steyr with him. All in all everything went off without a hitch and scores generally went up for round 2 as things settled down. Dan D. popped 7 chickens and both Bob J. and Dave L. nailed 7 piggies - Suuueeeyyyyy! We capped things off with a raffle for a BCSA Silhouette mug and Dan D. continued to dominate the event with yet another victory - time to buy a lottery ticket, Dan!
