Photo Album: Silhouette Range 1

BCSA's excellent Silhouette Range is a challenge, as you can see in the photo above. The game is to knock over small metal animals at varying distances and elevations. The maximum distance is 100 meters, and .22 caliber rifles are used in this three season event.

These are the "rams" targets, which are at 100 meters, and are about the size of your hand. They are knocked off the sawhorse support when the metal figure is hit.

The range is measured and marked at the appropriate distances for smallbore silhouette: 10 chicken targets at 40 meters (43.7 yards) 10 pig targets at 60 meters (65.6 yards) 10 turkey targets at 77 meters (84.2 yards) 10 sheep targets at 100 meters (109.4 yards) For each five round stage (one shot, left to right, at each target in a bank of five), a shooter is allowed a maximum of 2-1/2 minutes. Firing on the targets is performed using a .22 caliber rifle with telescopic sights. Shooters must fire off-hand, which means no table, sandbags, or other supports are used.
